visitors

Bear Creek Acres had the honor of hosting a special group of visitors today. It was the Mesabi East Head Start class. Teacher Laura, Teacher Patty, Teacher Becca , and a mommy and a daddy wrangled a delightful group of kids.
We looked at the baby meat chickens, Roo our dairy cow, the beef cow mamas and babies, the beef steers, the horses, and the laying hens.
Wandering barn cats always steal the show from the farmer.
This year we are between batches of pigs and sadly, had no swine to show off.
There was also time for tractor admiration.....we must allow time for sitting on tractors.

The last two days have been great fun. We had special guests both days. The Ely and the Babbitt Head Start classes came to see where meat comes from. The Ely group braved a drizzly rain to see cows, pigs and chickens. The next day the Babbitt group brought sunshine but had to put up with mud.
All the kids and adults were a delight, and I hope that they had a good time. I sure enjoyed having them. I wish I had a photo to share with you all, but I get so excited showing them around that I forget to take pictures!
But before they came, I took some pictures of the cows and calves. Maybe you'll enjoy those...

Mamas are resting in the sun. Please excuse the cowpies....

Some calves found a high spot out of the mud.
Aren't they sweet?

I had a lot of fun recently when the Head Start class from Mesabi East came to visit with their teachers and some parents. They wanted to see where food comes from and got up close looks at big and little pigs, beef cows, a milk cow, and chickens. They even got to hold eggs still warm from a hen.
They were well behaved and cheerful - a delight!
What a fun morning I had. I was sorry that Shannon had to work and couldn't be here for their visit. We hope that the weather will cooperate so we can host a couple more Head Starts who have asked to come.
Teacher Laura brought by this nice card they made as a thank you for us when she came to buy some eggs. I'll treasure it. A very thoughtful mom even sent us a personal thank you from their family.
Don't I get to meet the nicest folks?!
